Susquehanna Valley GTO was founded in 1995 in York, Pennsylvania, by a group of local GTO enthusiasts looking to share knowledge, and camaraderie with other like minded enthusiasts. As a regional chapter of the GTOAA, SVGTO grew in its membership as the club became better known, both locally, regionally, and nationally. The breadth of the club now reaches outside the confines of York County to such areas as Hagerstown MD, Exton PA, Newville PA, Ephrata PA, Lancaster PA, Lebanon PA, Conestoga PA, Carlisle PA, Mechanicsburg PA, and the greater Harrisburg area. The club has grown into a truly regional club and we continue to expand.
Attending shows and cruise functions, the club’s exposure allowed it to grow. At all major area shows as well as many smaller ones, a SVGTO member can be found promoting the club by chatting with other GTO, and Pontiac owners and supplying them with literature about our club.
We support other car clubs, and are always eager to show as a club at their functions. We accept invites to appear in Parades, or other public venues in the spirit of community involvement, and charities. We hold our own annual All Pontiac Show at Jones Pontiac in
Lancaster,
PA.
Membership in the club does not require ownership of a GTO, or any Pontiac for that matter, just an appreciation of the history of what these great cars represent in the whole of the American Muscle Car era.
We also have a member’s referral program. For every 3 new members a current club member brings into the club and the new members join the GTOAA, or the new club members are current GTOAA members, you can earn your next year’s club dues free. This is on a yearly basis and is limited to one free membership per year.
Club sponsored, and organized events are planned throughout the show/cruise season every year, such as cruises, shows, parades, sight seeing cruises, and the annual club picnic, and holiday party. We believe a true car enthusiast regardless of the type car they drive, share one major obsession; the appreciation of what the era of Muscle Cars was, and still is. SVGTO members are encouraged to invite prospective members to join us at functions, cruises, and attending our monthly meeting to see what SVGTO is about. Many current members joined the club as a result of being invited to one of our functions. We believe this is an important tool in recruiting prospective members so they may see first hand what we do and how we operate. We have a diverse group of members with many first generation GTO’s and new generations GTO’s. Members are encouraged to participate in all club functions and add their input on ways to improve the club and submit ideas for functions. Classic GTOs mingle with New Generation GTOs at club functions and shows. Currently the ratio is about 60/40, classic vs. new gen.
Jones Pontiac in Lancaster is the Preferred Dealer of SVGTO. We are able to provide for our members, 10% discount on parts, and servicing. Club members receive specialized discounts on performance parts and specialized discounts on all cars Jones sells. This club discount is extended for all servicing, and parts Jones deals. These discounts afford our membership the opportunity to recoup their club dues many times over depending on how often they utilize it. Jones offers delivery of parts for those members who are out of the immediate area. We encourage our members to take advantage of this benefit.
We hold monthly club meetings on the 3rd Sunday of every month at the Hillside Café just off of route 83 in Etters PA at exit 35 to discuss over lunch; club business, and share ideas on ways to improve, promote, and organize functions. All members are strongly encouraged to attend and add their input, and suggestions.
SVGTO is a proud sponsor of M.J. Anderson Loving Care LTD. of
York,
PA. M.J. Anderson is an assisted care facility for the elderly. We donate proceeds from our car shows, or other venues to their organization, as well as donating our time as chauffeurs for their annual Celebrity Golf Tournament. We believe in giving back to the community. We feel every club in the GTOAA should adopt a worthwhile charitable organization and assist where they can, getting involved in their community.
